And Then She Called Me A Hero

Lauren is settling in nicely to school. Her teachers have both noticed a remarkable change from just last year. Today, Lauren’s teachers (and Jillian’s too) were teaching the class about Terry Fox. For those of you who aren’t familiar with him, he has been pegged a Canadian Hero. He ran across country in the early 80′s to raise money for cancer research. And he did that with a prosthetic leg.

As the classes were being taught about Terry Fox, Lauren’s teacher asked some kids who their hero was. She got the typical ages 4-5 answers like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc. She then asked WHY the student felt they were a hero. Lauren then said very confidently- “my mom and my sister”. She was also asked why she felt that way. She replied with the fact that I always make time for her, I take time to make her lunch and I love her even when I’m mad at her. She then explained that Jillian doesn’t walk, but tries SO hard to do it.

I was completely blown away. Lauren thinks I’m a hero. And now that this is in writing, I’ll have to show her this during the dreaded teenage years! ;) I guess I might be doing something right with these girls. Who knew?

Completely off topic, but my laptop died a very quick and painful death on Saturday, so posting here might be sporadic. I think I’ll go and thank my lucky stars for both of my girls.

That is so sweet. I was going to say, hold on to that memory, because one day right around the corner, you will not longer be a hero and will be someone that they can’t stand. Although, you have girls, so it could be different.
